Working with people with eating disorders can be extremely complex. This training session will benefit allied health professionals (for example, psychotherapists, play therapists, dietitians, psychologists, nurses, GPs, guidance counsellors, sports trainers and more). No matter your role in a person’s care, there are some fundamental skills and knowledge that can benefit the person you are working with, and your own confidence. Harriet has years of experience working with and supporting people of all ages with eating disorders and their families, in many different roles. Come and spend time thinking about how to work better with people with eating disorders.
We will cover:
– Understanding Eating Disorders diagnosis – Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorders as how to distinguish between disordered eating and an eating disorder.
– Understanding a therapeutic or supportive role and its possible limitations. Managing risk.
– Managing, understanding and building confidence working with key clinical features for therapeutic work
– Practical application of formulations and understanding eating disorder cycles in this therapeutic work
– Applying therapeutic skills, and learning skills that enhance and improve communication within this field of therapeutic work
– Explanation and guidance on the first line evidence based treatment interventions (CBT-E and Family Based Treatment) used within mental health settings
– Time for questions, answers and discussion.
