Harriet has been working and studying in the area of psychotherapy for nearly two decades, specialising in the area of eating disorders. After her psychology degree she worked as a telephone counsellor with the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. Following this, Harriet completed an MA in Addiction Studies and then an MSc. in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Harriet has been working for BODYWHYS The Eating Disorders Association, since 2004. During this time she has trained, managed and supervised all the volunteers working on the various support services. More recently, Harriet has been working closely with the HSE, and the development of theIr clinical programme for eating disorders, a national and expansive development in public service provision for those with eating disorders. In addition to this, Harriet regularly contributes to media discussions, via radio, tv, and in print. Harriet frequently lectures and trains students and professionals (Psychiatrists, GPs, youth workers, foster carers, social workers, therapists) in the area of eating disorders, treatment and support provision. She has lectured on psychoanalysis and eating disorders in UCD, TCD and Dublin Business School. Harriet is a member of the ICP, and is a registered practitioner with APPI. She served on its scientific committee on its executive committee and was chair of the organisation from 2014 to 2016. Harriet is a ballerina – trained in Perm, Russia, she then danced with Moscow City Ballet before pursuing her current career.
