Brian O’Connor

“Beginning psychotherapy is an important step, and it helps to approach it with realistic expectations. Meaningful change takes time. We all develop our ways of thinking, feeling, and relating over many years, so lasting change is a gradual process of exploration, understanding, and growth.”

My approach is collaborative and grounded in the belief that therapy is a partnership. Together, we work to deepen self-awareness, strengthen communication, and develop new ways of responding to life’s challenges. Whether you are seeking relief from emotional distress or looking to improve your relationships, therapy offers a space to gain insight and move towards a more fulfilling life.

I am an experienced psychotherapist with a Master’s degree in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, working with both individuals and couples. I support clients experiencing relationship and marital difficulties, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, intimacy and sexual concerns, workplace challenges, and other emotional or psychological difficulties.

Before training as a psychotherapist, I founded and led an advertising communications consultancy, working with non-profit organisations and clients across the visual and performing arts. This experience developed my appreciation for creativity, communication, and the complexities of human relationships. I bring these perspectives together with rigorous clinical training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Couples Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to offer an approach that is thoughtful, compassionate, and tailored to each client’s needs.

I have also been actively involved in the psychotherapy profession, serving on the Executive Committee of the Association for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in Ireland (A.P.P.I.) and contributing to its Training Committee.
