Self-harm

Self-harm can be a way of coping with overwhelming emotions, distress or inner turmoil when it feels difficult to express what is happening in words. Whatever its form or underlying cause, self-harm is serious and should not be ignored.

Psychotherapy provides a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where difficult feelings and experiences can be spoken about and explored without judgement. Therapy places particular value on finding words for experiences that may feel difficult to understand or communicate.

Talking can offer an alternative way of expressing and making sense of emotional pain, while helping you develop a greater understanding of what lies behind the urge to self-harm.
