Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are complex and serious conditions that can have a profound impact on a person’s physical health, emotional well-being, and relationships. They can be frightening and exhausting to live with, both for the person experiencing them and for those who care about them.
Eating disorders can become increasingly consuming, with thoughts about food, weight, exercise or body image taking up more and more mental and emotional space. Feelings of shame, secrecy and loss of control can also make it difficult to ask for help.
Seeking support early is important. Psychotherapy provides a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore the thoughts, feelings and experiences connected to an eating disorder, and to begin developing a different relationship with food, your body and yourself.
Because eating disorders can have serious physical as well as psychological consequences, psychotherapy may form part of a wider programme of care alongside appropriate medical and specialist eating-disorder support.
